Goal: Help health professionals and stakeholders understand the National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy, past and current priorities, and reports on achievements.
Objectives: Participants will be able to provide expert assistance to:
- Describe the historical background of the National Prevention Strategy
- Affordable Care Act, executive orders, press releases, fact sheets
- Describe the process of engaging stakeholders
- List and describe the four strategic directions and seven priorities in the National Prevention Strategy
- For the National Prevention Strategy, list and describe:
- the four Strategic Directions and seven Priorities
- Economic benefits, strategic indicators, stakeholder outreach and input, the advisory group, and evidence-based recommendations
- Explain achievements described in reports
- List and describe the current Surgeon General priorities

Need for the Course
The National Prevention, Health Promotion and Public Health Strategy is something never done before and provides an unprecedented opportunity to shift the nation from a focus on sickness and disease to one based on wellness and prevention. Its vision, goals, recommendations and action items that public private, nonprofit organizations and individuals can take to reduce preventable death, disease and disability in the US must know and understand to be able to implement and evaluate evidence-based interventions.
