  • Goal: Help health professionals and stakeholders understand the National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy and, as partners, do actions recommended by the National Prevention, Health Promotion and Public Health Council.
  • Objectives:
    • Participants will be able to provide expert assistance to -
      • State the vision, mission and overarching goals of Healthy People 2020
      • Describe the 12 topic areas and 26 indicators shown as objectives
      • Explain the development and framework of the LHIs
      • Analyze factors that foster or hinder the learning process and skill building
      • Use a variety of evidence-based resources and strategies
      • Use evidence-based research to develop policies to promote health
      • For each topic area explain its health impact, impact across the life stages, determinants, and relationships to disparities and disparities data
      • State LHI topic indicators, objectives, baselines, targets and target setting methods and data sources

Need for the Course

The Leading Health Indicators are new and add to the opportunity to shift the nation from a focus on sickness and disease to one based on wellness and prevention. The smaller set of objectives give the public private, nonprofit  organizations and individuals methods to reduce preventable death, disease and disability in the US must know and understand to be able to implement and evaluate evidence-based interventions.

  • Partial refund (course fee less $10 processing fee) if:
    • 1) payment was electronic at the PayPal sign up link, 2) not requested within 60 days and 3) completion certificate with credit hours was not awarded or
    • 1) payment was not through PayPal (i.e., check, money order sent with printed registration form) and 2) completion certificate and credit hours were not awarded
  • No refund at anytime after signup with payment if a completion certificate and credit hours have been awarded
